Missional living in the context of ministry
At the heart of internships at St Stephens is discipleship. It’s an exciting process of getting to know God, making Jesus known to others and exploring His call on our life. It’s about exploring how our skills and giftings can be used to promote the growth of the Kingdom of God in the Nelson area and beyond, while at the same time being supported by ministry leaders with years of experience.
Internships are specifically aimed at providing training for men and women of any age who are seeking to develop their skills and seek God’s call on their life. St Stephens internships are completely flexible depending on the individual’s commitments or desires and can be done while studying or working.
While the program is primarily aimed at specific areas of ministry there will also be a focus on deepening the individual’s personal relationship with Christ through the Holy Spirit.
The Missional Living element is designed to encourage a ‘faith lived out’ to prepare the disciple for whatever sphere of life God calls them to – be it the secular workforce, full time ministry, theological studies, or the mission field.
Participants will be expected to commit to 10 hours of involvement per week, the majority of which will be in their chosen ministry area and will include preparation for, and regular attendance at, fellowship events and meetings as mutually agreed (a reduced or increased number of hours per week may be possible by arrangement). Generally an initial internship placement would be for at least 1 year however, duration can be tailored to specific needs.
St Stephen’s is committed to raising up leaders and upskilling those with a desire to serve. Because of this, there is no charge nor any remuneration for our internship programme (although, in some cases funding may be available through Bishopdale College or from other sources to help towards living expenses).
